Meet Stewart Gervaise, Owner Of Roof Painting Plus

Roof Painting Plus is built on more than 70 years of family trade experience, passed down through three generations of painters and roof specialists.

It all started in Scotland in the 1950s, when my grandfather, Anthony, worked as a painter and decorator. When the opportunity came to emigrate to Australia under the famous Ten Pound Scheme, he didn't hesitate. He packed up his life and headed for Australia, bringing with him the skills, work ethic and pride in craftsmanship that would become the foundation of our family trade.

By the 1980s, my dad, Alex, had taken the trade into its second generation. As airless spraying technology became available, the work evolved beyond the traditional brush and roller. Dad began specialising in roof painting, working across farms and rural properties on shearing sheds, hay sheds, farmhouses and even silos. I grew up around those jobs, learning the trade from my dad and grandfather and seeing first-hand what it takes to do a job properly.

I completed my apprenticeship and earned my trade certificate before continuing the family tradition. In 2002, I took the next step and began specialising in roof restoration, building on everything I had learned from the two generations before me.

A lot has changed since the days of spraying silver frost onto shearing sheds and silos. Today, Roof Painting Plus uses modern airless spraying equipment, advanced roof membranes and heat-reflective coatings to deliver professional restoration solutions across all types of roofs.

In 2020, I moved to Tamworth and established Roof Painting Plus, bringing our family's experience and specialised approach to homeowners, rural properties and businesses throughout North Western NSW.

Today, Roof Painting Plus combines three generations of hands-on experience with modern roofing technology. We take pride in doing things properly, from thorough preparation and repairs through to the final coat, and treating every roof as if it were our own.

And the story doesn't stop here. With my two sons now learning the trade and helping out on the job, I'm proud to be passing our knowledge on to the next generation.

From Scotland in the 1950s to North Western NSW today, it's a family tradition built on hard work, quality workmanship and a passion for the trade.
