What 20 Years on New England Metal Roofs Teaches You

  • Stewart can tell surface rust from perforation on sight — you get an honest call on repair versus sheet replacement instead of paint hiding a hole.
  • Rust is mechanically cut back and converted, not painted over, so it doesn't bleed back through the topcoat in eighteen months.
  • Old roofing screws and perished rubber washers are replaced across the whole roof — the single biggest source of drips on iron in frost country.
  • Valleys, flashings, ridge capping and penetrations are resealed with roof-grade sealant rated for the temperature swing out here.
  • Etch primer is used on bare and weathered steel so the topcoat keys chemically instead of just sitting on a slick surface.
  • Heat-reflective topcoats are available in Colorbond-matched colours, which drops roof-space temperature noticeably through a Narrabri summer.

Common Questions

Colorbond & Metal Roof Restoration FAQs

My Colorbond is only faded, not rusty — is recoating worth it?

Faded Colorbond means the factory finish has oxidised away, which is the stage right before rust starts at the screws and cut edges. Recoating now costs far less than rust repair later, and it's the cheapest point in the roof's life to change colour.

Do you replace rusted sheets as well?

Yes. Where a sheet is perforated or the valley has rusted through, we replace it rather than coat it. Sheet replacement is quoted separately and itemised so you can see exactly what the steel costs versus the coating.

Will the new coating match Colorbond colours?

The topcoat range is matched to standard Colorbond colours — Monument, Woodland Grey, Manor Red, Basalt and the rest — so gutters, fascias and sheds still tie in. Custom tints are available if you want something off the standard chart.
